2019 Stadium Series Logo Unveiled
If Pittsburgh uses the Fort Pitt Bridge in their Winter Classic and Stadium Series logos, then Philly will use the Liberty Bell and Keystone as part of their logo and jersey, right?
Right!
Today the NHL announced the 2019 Stadium Series logo for the game hosted in Philadelphia, seemingly as a combo game with the popular and well received 2017 game in Pittsburgh. Even the logos for the games look similar, featuring navy, silver, and yellow, with orange added to this logo since it is in Philly!
The logo is in the shape of the keystone, seen last in the 2012 Winter Classic Captain's C patch. The script is slightly different from the one found on the previous Stadium Series logo being slightly more industrial and thicker than Pittsburgh's logo, with the classic cracked Liberty Bell in the D replacing the empty space with that Philadelphia staple.
For reference, here's the 2017 logo for those who forgot:
This is not the first time the NHL has given Pittsburgh and Philly outdoor games very close to each other, as the 2011 & 2012 Winter Classics were hosted in Pittsburgh and then Philly.
While these logos certainly weren't as coherent, it's clear if Pittsburgh gets an outdoor game, look for Philly to get it the following year!
So what do you think? Are you a fan of almost back to back Penn games? Do you like having rivals who host each other back to back to have coherent logos? Would this work for any other teams? Are you looking forward to the jerseys? Tell us in the comments!
