Monday: 6 on April 6x3
PhilWelcome to another Monday post on HJC!
Yesterday, Mr. Up 2-0 on the Ducks, Caz, posted a list of stereotypes for NHL teams. I figured I'd give my general thoughts on each team, maybe some old teams.
Anaheim: Wish they were still Mighty
Arizona: I was 10 when you first were threatened to be moved, I'm now 20 and you still haven't moved...waiting....
Atlanta: NHL 2004, Byron Dafoe
Boston: Steve Shields, haven't been likeable since then
Buffalo: Love me some slug
Calgary: Missing you already, Kipper
Carolina: Arturs Irbe, Kevin Weekes...2006...Now has the 2nd lesser of the 4 Staals
Chicago: Back in my day, Kyle Calder was the star player
Colorado: I can name of of the team from their cup winning years...uninteresting since then
Columbus: DAVID VYBORNY!!
Dallas: Have had nothing but good jerseys...except for that one time...and those awkward 6 years
Detroit: Chris Osgood's bucket
Edmonton: And the 2020 First Overall Pick...for the 9th time...
Florida: Jagr saved your buts from a one way ticket to Québec
Los Angeles: They win without the forum blue but I miss it
Minnesota: I keep forgetting this team is only 15 years old
Montréal: Most of my friends are Habs fans, guess they don't like winning
Nashville: David Legwand
New Jersey: Never change those jerseys
NYI: When your former meh goalie comes back to save the team..and does a decent job at it
NYR: 2002-03...look at that roster
Ottawa: Get bent
Philly: Beat up Pittsburgh more, bring back the bullies
Pittsburgh: Your goalie is a flower...literally
St. Louis: This team has only missed the playoffs a hand full of times ever, impressive
San Jose: Marleau, Thornton, Nabokov
Tampa Bay: Sad when your best jersey is a bland alternate
Toronto: HAHAHA, I was 8 when you were watchable
Vancouver: Why you didn't win in 2011 I'll never know
Washington: You still haven't made up for those white pants 40 years ago
Winnipeg: Can we get some playoff hockey, please?
Are these stereotypes? I hope not, but otherwise this is a brief look inside the mind of a writer
Time to look at our RHI entries up!

Here are today's 6 concepts!!
-----------------------------------------------------------
New York Islanders Concept (By: Zeke G.)
+ The striping pattern is perfect, having the 4 stripes on the arm and using something simple on the hem balances out the jersey nicely
+ Colours are balanced really well across the gear and jersey
+ Good logo choices
+ Good execution
- The captain's C looks out of place so high up
- While the modified NY logo looks good, having that thicker outline it did in the past would look better
Rating: 9/10
San Diego Gulls ECHL Concepts (By: Brooks F.)
+ The home and road are perfect, the numbers, colour choices and balancing of the colours are all done perfectly and would be great for the Gulls in 2004 or now
+ The logo choices are all really good, these are the best pre-modern Gulls logos out there
+ A light blue alternate works, and I like the 3 swooshes behind it
+ Great execution
- I wish there was a way to get more orange on the light blue jersey
- The pants need a logo or an orange and white stripe
- I probably would have gone with a thicker set of numbers on the home and road, they look good as they are but I always prefer thick numbers
Rating: 8.75/10
Colorado Avalanche Concept (By: Ryan C.)
+ Right away I really like the maroon under the arms, this is a good way to compromise putting colour there without resorting to a pit
+ The dark nature of the jersey works decently well
+ The rest of the jersey is simple, but it works
+ Good execution
- The darkness of the jersey makes the logos stand out, but not the numbers, adding some white to the numbers would help them stand out
- I'd need to see the gear to be fully convinced of this jersey working on ice
- On a presentation note, the jersey would be easier to look at on a lighter background
Rating : 8.25/10
+ I'd call this the inverse of the current Colorado alternate; simple, basic, and it still works
+ The maroon gear looks gorgeous against a mainly white and blue jersey
+ This is helping convince me an Avs jersey without their current primary could work
+ Excellent execution
- One very minor thing I'd change, making the C on the pants navy and the circle inside maroon to help it stand out, same with the helmet
Rating: 9.5/10 COTW Nom from me!
Columbus Blue Jackets Concept (By: Lucas D.)
+ I've seen this striping pattern from Lucas before, it works
+ The biggest change to this jersey is the throwback logo and the addition of the electric green (I think that's what they called it in 2000), and in one way, I like it, in another I don't
+ Execution is good
- I really wish you'd used a different striping pattern, we've already seen this striping pattern in two previous concept, and we;d like to see something more original
- The green works on the piping, but not on the cuffs, the cuffs would look better blue
- The Stinger shoulder patch would work here for sure, considering it's supposed to be a throwback
Rating: 7/10
Columbus Blue Jackets Concepts (By: Matt G.)
+ The home and road's simple striping pattern helps the other features stand out more, like the pant stripes, the numbers in the stripes and the chevrons
+ The alternate has a really cool military vibe to it, and makes good use of the cannon logo
+ Good colour balancing
+ Good execution
- The stars on the shoulder of the alternate would look better white, and add some colour to the upper jersey
- I don't think the red pants would work as well as blue pants would on the alternate, I get you want to use something simpler, but plain blue pants with a small red strip and logo would do that just fine
Rating: 8.5/10
