Sunday: It's a fun day!

Hi everybody. Steve here with the usual Sunday post. Not much has popped up on the jersey radar recently, except for the classy Swift Current Broncos jersey that pays respect to those players lost in the Humboldt but crash, so let's get to the reminders and then to the concepts.

We still have the 90's ReDesign competition entry portion going on. It's a great opportunity to get really out of the box with the jersey designs like they did back then so you really can't go wrong. Also, we have a really neat podcast coming out this week that talks about players in other team jerseys. Something like Mike Modano wearing a Red Wings jersey when I, myself, will always picture him as a Stars player. Finally, we have the usual COTW voting.

Let's get to the concepts!

Burkus C- Penguins Vs Capitals

Positives: For the Penguins jersey, I'm not sure if you made this before or after the alternate jersey was brought out, but this is a much more interesting jersey than what they came out with. The use of the current template but using yellow sleeves instead of black (like the Sunday golds) was an excellent choice as was the skate-alone penguin and the stencil numbers. As for the Capitals, It's good to see the Weagle get used on the front of the jersey, as well as having those stars on the sleeves to fill in that empty space left by the yoke numbers.
Negatives: For the Penguins, Going with yellow pants was a bad choice. Now, I get that it's to keep with the color rush idea but you would, at least, have to add more black and white to the pants to make it work. As for the Capitals jersey, I feel you put a little too much white into the jersey for it to be "Color Rush". Remember that it's either the main color for the jersey and the main colors are accents or vice-versa. Also, please get off using the same template for every team.
Overall: 8.5/10

Lucas D- New York Mets

Positives: What works well is the minimalism you use to accentuate the logo. For the dark jersey, I like the simple blue jersey with the orange stripe and white hem and extended cuffs. It's a simple but appealing design. As for the white, I like that you strayed away from making it the same as the dark jersey but still using the same stripe sizes.
Negatives: The blue yoke on the white jersey seems out of place. that would look better at the bottom of the jersey. Otherwise, good job.
Overall: 8.75/10 COTW NOMINEE!

Mac W- Calgary Flames 

Positives: Bringing back the pre-edge jersey design was a good choice on this. It looks really good and fits perfectly on the template. As for the Alternate. I like how you went with a minimalist approach to it and went Canucks 90's style on the jersey. It looks really good with the logo.
Negatives: If you created the logo for the alternate, please say so on the concept. Also, I'm not sure if your'e away, but there's a junior hockey team in Calgary called the Mustangs that use a logo somewhat similar to the logo you have on the main set. This could cause issues between the two teams so I feel that you should rethink the horsehead and possible just use the one from the 90's.
Overall: 7/10

Vaughn R- SC Bern vs New Jersey Devils

Positives: I really like the SC Bern jersey simply because most of the previous designs they had weren't as well balanced as this. Using the yellow as a base was a good choice with the red hem and cuffs and the black and white accent work very well. As for the Devils, It's nice to see you change up the team's current jersey set by going black. Also, it looks like a good mix between the current and previous jerseys the team has worn.
Negatives: My main issues have to do with the Devils jersey. It's hard to do a black jersey for the devils and this just seems to fall flat compared to the SC Bern jersey. You could've gone other ways that would make this jersey much more interesting.
Overall: 8/10
