Sunday: Switcheroo

Hey y'all! TC here filling in for Steve at the last minute.  I don't have much time, so I'm gonna jump right into voting news. 

In voting news, we have the regular COTW vote for December 1-7, as well as the COTW November vote, both of which end Friday at noon EST.  Additionally, this is the final week to send in your entries for the New Jersey Devils ReDesign Competition, with all entries due by Friday at noon EST.  I'm really excited for this contest, as I think the Devils are one of the teams that really dropped the ball with the switch to the Adizero system.  I can't wait to see what y'all come up with to replace it.

Now on to today's concepts!

Jack S.- Maine Black Bears

Our first concept of the day is Jack S.'s design for the Maine Black Bears.  I love the Black Bears' color scheme, most of y'all already know I'm a sucker for double blue.  I love the double striping on the arms with the TV numbers in between them, it's a great look.  I would, however, widen the gap between the two stripes so the TV numbers aren't so crowded.  The script logo works great for a college hockey team, and the single hem stripe was a good call.  I love the light blue toke on the dark set, but I probably would have included a white border around it, and paired it with a dark blue yoke on the light jersey.  In terms of execution, the name on the back is a little too close to the yoke, and I would have liked to have seen some gear with this set to get a better idea of the overall look.  Final verdict: a good looking set in a great color scheme.  8/10

Jack S.- Boston University Terriers

Jack's second concept of the day is a design for the Boston University Terriers.  I like the look of the chest stripe with the roundel logo on the dark set, and the yoke works surprisingly well with it.  The TV numbers and name on the back are a little high, so move those down a tad.  The away jersey is where you lose me.  The same name and numbers issues as before, and the design on the front is too low.  The striping on the cuffs is too small and too low, it'd be covered by the gloves, making it essentially look like a long sleeved t-shirt.  Across the set, I'd say the two shades of red is unnecessary, just pick the main lighter one.  Your font choice here is confusing, because the text in the logos is much more traditional, and I believe you went with the Kings' font, it doesn't really fit.  Finally, the roundel logo looks really choppy around the edges, you should smooth it out.  Final verdict: not a bad idea, but a lot to be desired.  6/10

Noah K.- X Base Firehawks

Next up is the latest entry in Noah K.'s roller coaster inspired Kings Island Hockey League, this time with a design for the Firehawk.  I actually like the caution tape design on the striping, it looks pretty good here.  Your font choice works well with the overall theme, so good job there.  Your main crest is a little too big, it's spilling onto the side panels.  The white set should have more red to help out the color balance.  Both sets should use the same breezers, and white jerseys usually demand white helmets.  With the hem stripe, the colored hem at the bottom is somewhat unnecessary.  Final verdict: home set looks good, but the away kills the design.  6.5/10

Steven G.- Boston Bruins

Our final concept of the day is a twofer from Steven G. for the Boston Bruins.  The first set brings back the Bruins' original brown and gold color scheme.  I like the look of the original block B, it's a strong logo that looks good even without the spokes.  The traditional striping is alright, but a little too thin for my liking.  The second set is Steven's ideal look for the Bruins.  The home set is essentially the current design, but with a yellow collar and the old yellow spoked B.  I do like the use of the yellow B logo, but I'm not quite sold on the yellow collar.  The away set switches out the black yoke for a yellow one that better matches the yoke on the home, and matches the striping from the home.  I have to say, I like both moves here, it really ties the whole set together.  Still not feeling that yellow collar though.  Final verdict: the first set is a little basic, but the second set is where this concept really shines.  8.5/10
