Thursday: Finnishing Up 2017

New Year's is almost upon us, but today marks HJC New Year's Eve as today's concepts are the last set eligible for COTW Nominations this calendar year.

As we run through the holidays, we've reached a lull in the HJC Competition schedule with only the regular COTW Vote this week. Fear not, take it as an opportunity to work on some personal interest concepts and gear up for the competitions to come in the New Year

On to the Concepts!

Burkus C.- Finland (2018 Olympics)

The Good: 

• Burkus creates a really nice look here by taking the chest-stripe based Finland WCoH jerseys and pairing them with a full length yoke and continuing the stripe through the underarms works a lot better 
• Really like the shoulder logo choice here
• Matching away provides some needed cohesion
• Single color text looks great on both sets 

The Ugly (Execution Issues):

• Would really like to see equipment on this one. Important to see if you'd stick with navy equipment even with no navy in the jersey
• Not sure what the black line on the interior of the yoke is...

Overall Rating: 8.75/10

Really nice look for the Fins that improves on their WCoH look to provide a set that's leaps and bounds ahead of what's in store for the Olympics. 

TC Moore.- Baltimore Orioles

The Good: 

• TC gives us a nice look for Baltimore that brings orange to the forefront and adopt a script logo for each of the primary set
• Alternating thin stripes look really nice on the main sets and the Oilers' template works well for the alt
• Alternate and White jerseys look really nice

The Bad:

• I'd either remove the yoke on the Orange or make it white (not sure which'd look better, tbh). But the black throws off the color balance as is.
• #OB looks a little thick on each jersey, but that may just be me

The Ugly (Execution Issues):

• Sock stripes look a bit high

Overall Rating: 7.0/10

A nice look for the Orioles, but nothing groundbreaking here from TC.

TC Moore.- Texas Rangers

The Good: 

• TC brings us to my hometown with today's approach to the Rangers
• Great logo choice on each of the sets. I've always liked that roundel logo and the sheriff's badge looks great on the shoulders
• Logos on the retro are equally appreciated and the NY Rangers pants pair with it well

The Bad:

• Can't say I'm a fan of the striping pattern... at all. I'd be interested to see how preserving the pattern through the stripe (a la Winnipeg) would affect the look

The Ugly (Execution Issues):

• Sock stripes look a bit high again

Overall Rating: 5.0/10

Something more groundbreaking here by TC, but unfortunately not a strength in my eyes.

Burkus Circus gives us a strong Finnish to HJC's calendar year, so I'll extend my COTW nomination his way this time around.
