Islanders "Unveil" New Alternate Logo
Looks like we got a decent news day today, as along with the earlier potential leak of the Sharks new alternate jerseys, we now have a clean look at the new Islanders wordmark from the team themselves.
At today's prospects game between the Islanders and Flyers, the Islanders were handing out shirts to fans with this logo on it. Our own (now former writer) Phil, the Islanders man himself, was fortunately at the event to give us the a good look at the design.
The design takes a more modern approach to the script logo idea, but one smaller detail that I did not immediately notice was the tail of the script making a fish hook or harpoon type shape. It's a nice little callback to theirfishsticks fisherman days if you ask me. The also design matches what was found on the helmets of the leaked third jersey design from almost two weeks ago, mainly in the fact that it is a script logo, as the details were too blurry to make out in the leak. Having this logo be released by the team themselves may all but confirm that leak.
Another little note brought up by Phil is that this may support the idea that the new alternate jerseys are actually navy blue instead of their primary blue, as the shirt itself was a navy shade.

TC: "That tail makes it look like a Devils concept" (to give him the benefit of the doubt, he said that well before the fish hook was brought up)
Myself: "Looked so much better in pixelated form ..." "It just ... makes no sense with their branding from what I can see"

The jagged, sharp turns within the font defeat the whole purpose of the flowing cursive style. The harpoon / fish hook thingamajig looks forced, too. It wants to escape and swim to Hartford. Also, it's not good that we can't even decide if it's a harpoon or hook. This logo is a disaster.
