Monday: Red vs Blue

Hello everyone, welcome back to another Monday post!

This is not your normal black jersey lover Sean/Jets96 reporting to you today, but instead your favorite (only because you have no other option) friend of the show Bpoe. Now, I'm not the new permanent Monday writer, so for those of you who submitted a writer application don't get your hopes down yet, just consider me an interim writer for the time being, until we figure out who will be permanently writing in this spot. This will also be a bit of a test run for myself to make sure I can fit this into my schedule in case I do want to come back permanently, so I'm not completely out of the running for this spot.

We've had quite a good week for jersey news, a few leaks as well as a few reveals. I'd like to give my thoughts on some of those, but we'll also be going over the bigger ones on the podcast which we'll be recording later tonight. For those, I'll be brief on the post here, and go check out the podcast when it's out for my full review!

Sharks: I honestly kind of like it, but I think it needs something on the hem. The teal and black play off each other well.
Jets: When I first saw the leak, I really wasn't a fan. It wasn't bad but needed more. After seeing some of the photos from the reveal I love it. That leaked layout really did not flatter it.
Avalanche: I don't love this jersey as much as most do, so I'm not as thrilled about its return. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. Just a little blocky.
Islanders: I mentioned a few of these things on my news post but honestly, it's just pretty ... meh. I mean, in a vacuum, it's pretty decent, but it really just doesn't fit with the Islanders branding. If they used it as the chest logo, then maybe it would have worked better, but it almost just seems out of place to me. The fish hook in the tail though is a really nice touch.

What do you guys think about some of these recent unveilings? Let us know in the comments or on our social media channels!

For voting this week we have the usual COTW vote, and for you designers we have the Utah Grizzlies redesign entries due this Friday. The podcast is also being recorded tonight (save for some strange event that prevents us from doing so) so check that out tomorrow!

Ben S. - Michigan
Ben starts us off with a Michigan concept that brings a modern take on their current look by extrapolating the helmet design onto the arms. I like the idea for sure, and it's executed well, for the most part. The jersey designs are done well, but I think the pants and socks could use a bit more to them since the jerseys aren't very busy. Especially the socks. One problem I noticed, though, is that it doesn't completely match up on the bottom, in fact it would probably look kind of like this. You may or may not have done this intentionally, and if so, while it's not great it probably wouldn't be that bad since it's under the arms in an area you usually don't see. I like the contrasting arms on the white jersey (a nod to the Wings?), it helps even out the color balance. I would change the name and numbers to blue though, as the yellow doesn't provide a ton of contrast from the white, even with the blue outline dividing it. That same problem comes up on the yellow jersey too, and even more so in the striping. The striping suffers from bad yellow-on-white syndrome. I really do like the vintage look of that jersey, though.
Overall: 7.75/10

Lucas D. - Cincinnati Reds
Lucas finishes us off today with a crossover from the MLB. The Reds don't give you much to work off of with their uniforms, with just some thin contrasting piping, so all things considered I think you did a good job of converting that over into a hockey jersey. I like the small black stripe that was added as well, as it helps give black a little bit more relevance in the overall uniform. It makes it look like it actually belongs there. I also like the way you handled moving the red jersey's striping over to the white, and it really helps keep the colors balanced. I also love the font the Reds use, so I'm glad you used it. The MLB logo in the collar is a good detail as well. A few minor execution issues though, most of them on the flat layout: The logo looks small on the front of the jersey, and the TV numbers look very small. The back numbers also look just a tad small, as do the TV numbers on the realistic template.
Overall: 7.75

I tried writing in paragraph format today, but I'm not sure it worked. I think I just kind of rambled on as if I were writing in my bullet points like before, but let me know what you guys think.

Well that's all for today! I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you all again next Monday.*

*This statement does not create an express or implied contract of my return for next Monday. It more than likely will happen, but I make no promises.
