Thursday: High Flyers

With the NHL Season just around the corner (Just over have a month, ladies and gents. Stay strong!), we've got plenty going on at HJC.

Just yesterday, we had two news stories break on the site between the Sharks' potential third jersey leak and the confirmation of the Islanders' new script wordmark logo initially leaked here at HJC.  We've also got a lot of voting to be done. Both the COTM for August and last week's COTW vote run until tomorrow at noon (cough, cough. Go Blue!). The Grizzlies redesgin competition is chugging along as well with a good stream of entries coming in. Be sure to get those in by next Friday if you're still getting your ideas together.

Before we jump into the concepts, I'd like to send a solid thank you to Phil and everything he's done for the site. Our inside man for all things Islanders tipped us off to a number of news stories coming off the Island (including last week's alternate jersey leak) and at the very least provided a nice in-division rival for the 3 blog Pens fans to rag on. Although he's staying on for news and podcasts and the like, we're still sad to see him go. But that's the beauty of it, it's been a pleasure to have you and it will continue to be a pleasure to have you going forward.

REMINDERS:
COTW Vote Aug 31-Sep 6 (ends Friday @ noon EDT)

On to the concepts!

Ben S.- Colorado Eagles (AHL)

If a logo has ever worked on a chest stripe, it's the Colorado Eagles' Primary. And Ben answers our prayers with just that carrying over the striping set forth in that logo. On top of that, the rest of this concept is just wonderful. The blue numbers on both sets look great as does the white NOB on the home. I'd honestly remove the hem trim on this one, which is something I'd usually never say, but something that works on a chest stripe jersey IMO. This would draw even more attention to the beautifully designed and beautifully executed. The alternate I can take or leave, honestly, but I do understand that you're doing 3 jerseys per team and the Eagles don't have much an identity beyond what you've already established on the primary. That being said, I would swap the chest logo to just the C, as the mountain background fits the Avalanche and Rockies but really draws no comparison to a team named the Eagles.

Overall Rating: 9.0/10
Great logo use on the primary, not so much on the alt. But that's easy enough to overcome for ol' Benny Boy, here.

Lucas D.Baltimore Orioles (MLB)
Lucas takes a swing at the Orioles in his MLB crossover, here, and does a bang up job. I think I honestly prefer the helmet-bird to their hat-bird. Thing's a beauty through and through. Love the look of the home to, keeping orange and white separated really lets the orange be the star of the set. Not as fond of the away as orange and black fight for supremacy. With the NOB and yoke, it takes on a black-heavy look up top, whereas orange anchors the set below. Choose one and let it be the star of the set (or even just play around with rearranging the balance you have currently).

Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Home's a looker. Just need an away that can match its brilliance.

That's all for today folks.
