Utica Comets Unveil Jerseys for Save of the Day Foundation Night
It's not often you see a color scheme of black and neon green in the professional hockey world, but the Utica Comets will be doing it for at least one night later this month.
A brief description of the design from the Comets themselves:
"On Saturday, the Comets will hit the ice in their black jerseys with neon green and grey accents, with helmets, shells, gloves and socks to match. 2018’s jerseys will feature the traditional Comets shield logo on the front, the Save of the Day bull and OCSLEF’s logo on the shoulders, and ‘Save of the Day’ discreetly across the back in grey. The jerseys, which garnered national recognition last January, were brought back for 2018 due to their popularity and presence on the ice. Both Thatcher Demko and Richard Bachman have also designed custom masks for the occasion, along with their gloves, blockers and pads."
The jerseys will be worn on January 20, with different raffles and events starting tomorrow, January 12, leading up to Saturday night's game. Most of the proceeds will go to the Save of the Day Foundation, with a small portion going to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Foundation.
As mentioned, the jerseys are actually the same design as the Comets' wore for this night last year, with a few minor exceptions, such as the front sponsor patch. The biggest change, though, would be the primary logo, as last year they used a recolored version of their "U" alternate logo on the front.
One interesting tidbit from their release is that the players will actually be switching jerseys a few times during the game, in order to increase the chance for a fan to win one of the jerseys. To take a look at their announcement and find out more information about the game itself, click here.
