Halifax Mooseheads Sport Pink the Rink Fauxbacks
Pink the Rink nights are a staple of minor league and major junior leagues across Canada and the United States. While the NHL opts for patches and specialty warm up jerseys, teams in the AHL, ECHL and CHL wear pink versions of their home jerseys, or new designs based on existing designs recoloured for the occasion. In most cases, the team wears these new jerseys for that night only, after wards they areraffled off to lucky fans with the proceeds going to breast cancer research. Last night's 8-5 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was such a night for the Mooseheads. This year, opting for a fauxback design with pink and green taking the place of the usual red, gold, and green.
The design, itself is pretty simple, with two large pairs of stripes on the hem/arms and on the front of the yoke, with a green name back on the back. The primary logo loses its gold sparkle, being replaced with white, while the red outline of the H has been replaced with pink. The TV numbers have no white outline, while the ones on the back do, and rather than opting for a pair of yoke stripes on the back, there is a green name bar for the names. The team sported their usual green helmet and pants, with black gloves, as is tradition for the Mooseheads.
Along with this many of the ads in the Halifax Metrocentre were recoloured to be pink and white. Majority of these jerseys were won by fans through the aforementioned raffle, while some will be auctioned off on eBay, with a large cancer research donation coming as a result of the sales of the raffle and the upcoming auction.
In previous years the Mooseheads have opted for pink versions of their home jerseys, with either their primary logo or Halifax script, with other years being a pink version of their green alternate or now retired black script alternate. This is one of the few years the Mooseheads have used a design that is not a recoloured version of a previously worn jersey.
