Sunday: Adidas "Authentic" Jersey Review

Howdy everybody. Welcome back. I decided to join the dark side of HJC and do a Adidas jersey review because I recently took a trip to PPG Paints Arena and happened to stumble upon one.

Overall impressions on the jersey is, on a scale of 1-10, about a 7. I really like the fabric and how light it is. Also, that Adidas circle doesn't bother me that much. The crest has some pretty nice detail as well and the chrome NHL logo on the collar is really cool to see in person. As for the negatives of it, It's produced outside of North America. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but being that they cost a fortune I would expect a Authentic to be made here for that price. Also, the numbers look like those old sublimated-like numbers that the NHL would put on the replica jerseys. I get that it's to make the jersey lighter but it just looks cheap compared to actual layered and stitched numbers. Finally, the overall selection at the store was just Authentic jerseys, so that goes to show you that, at least the Penguins, don't have much faith in the fanatics' breakaway jerseys.

Hey, we have the Austrailian comp going on right now so get your entries in for that and also don't forget to vote for the COTW!

COTW Sept 22-28 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
AIHL entries (due October 13 @ noon ET)

Alright let's get to the main event!

Alan H- Colorado Avalance
Positives: I like that you made the accent striping more detailed like the 90 jerseys. While I love the new Avs jersey and would consider getting one, I really wish it had that black accent stripe. Also, keeping the hem the same was a good idea. It doesn't take away from the arm striping but gives it it's own look.
Negatives: The triple accent stripe is a bit much. Also, the name needs to be arched more. The arm striping, while it does look nice, just looks jumbled and doesn't give off that unique statement that the current striping does.
Overall: 7.75/10

Anthony C- Michigan State Spartans
Positives: Michigan's current jerseys are pretty boring and this would really improve their look. The simple arm striping with the sash stripe on the front of the jersey looks really good Anthony. It's something new that you haven't shown me yet so thank you.
Negatives: Not a big fan of how much silver you're using on this. tone it down and this would be great!
Overall: 8.5/10

Jets96- Brampton Beast
Positives: A much needed improvement to what the Beast already wear, Jets takes a nice approach to the jersey and gives them a pretty traditional look. The different colored ends of the jersey really make this jersey overall so good job!
Negatives: My only negative is the white ends on the black jersey. I'd like to see it as red.
Overall: 8.75/10 COTW NOMINEE!

Justin B- Philadelphia Flyers
Positives: This is a much needed improvement from what the Flyers wear now (but that's not hard to accomplish). Ok I promise I won't make another jab at the Flyers. Anyways, the yokes on the jerseys look really good and I like that you have orange on the ends of the white jersey. It really prevents the jersey from having a bare look to it.
Negatives: The arm stripes are a little too thick. Make them a little thinner and ithis would be a great jersey. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have a outline on the yoke to match the striping.
Overall: 8.5/10

Ok kids that's everything. Be on the lookout for more college team stories coming up soon. Have a good week and I'll see you guys this time next week!

I wish the authentic jerseys should be higher quality, I prefer wearing exactly what the team wears not something close. I can tell that they're trying to replicate the way the jerseys look when worn by a player with gear under it, while I like the baggy look you get from on ice jerseys. I also don't like that the hem stripes instead of curved like the actual on ice versions have. Hopefully the actual on ice template will eventually be sold, otherwise I'll have to try and buy a player issued jersey.
