Sunday: Rocky Top You'll Always Be Home Sweet Home to Me!

Good Afternoon All. Steve here with another story from the depths of the ACHA. This time, I take you down to Knoxville to hear the story of the University of Tennessee's Hockey Club, the Ice Vols!

The Ice Vols can trace their history all the way back to the 60's when the team would play select games at the James P. White Civic Coliseum, now home to the Knoxville IceBears, but have a permanent home at the Knoxville area IceArium at Cool Springs Complex. The team currently plays in the SECHC where they play other schools like Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and LSU. Another fact about the Ice Vols is that they recently participated in a charity game with the Richmond Spiders Hockey Club to honor former Ice Vols Player and Richmond Hockey Coach Virginia State Trooper Berke Bates. As Brother and Son of police officers, I highly respect that and that goes to show the class act both teams are and what they represent as hockey teams.

Now, Tennessee was a former team to go with Rebirth for jerseys but then decided that they would move to Harrow as part of a better deal.

Those were really nice jerseys they had a few years ago. The unfortunate part about this, though, is that the team was then told by the university that the club team could not use those logos due to not being a official athletic club. The Ice Vols didn't fret in coming up a pretty awesome new logo though!

That's a sweet logo! Using the Davie Crockett head was a great choice (although the Coon hound would have been a good choice as well) to represent the team! With that logo had to come some pretty awesome jerseys.

When Jake McKamey took over as team president, he told me how he really liked the Rebirth jerseys and wanted to go back to Rebirth. I really don't blame him being that the jersey made by Harrow looked like they were Sublimated and based off the Senators jersey template. Not saying that Harrow does a bad job for what they do for teams but it just doesn't look like a modern hockey jersey to me.

So with all that being said (once again, no offense Harrow) Rebirth got to work making new customer jerseys for the team and came up with these beauties!

It's really the small things that bring this jersey set together. The shoulder patches both represent both the university with the saying "Rocky Top You'll Always Be Home Sweet Home To Me" and the three stars in the unbroken circle that adorns the state flag. Also, the striping on the jersey works really well as it gives a simple but effective look to the jersey and let's the crest be the main focal point. Overall 8.75/10. I wish the Ice Vols best of luck this season and in the future!

Hey do you guys what you need to do? You guys need to vote for The AIHL Redesign contest, the Third Quarter, and COTW so get on that!

3rd Quarter Vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
COTW Oct 6-12 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
AIHL ReDesign Vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)

Alright let's get to it!

Adam G- Atlanta Thrasers
Positives: Love the decision to keep the half sleeve. I always loved that about the thrashers.
Negatives: It's another copy of a jersey that the team had already worn with a slight modification that makes no sense with it going to this thin stripe as it goes up. Please, for the love of all that is hockey, come up with something original!
Overall: 6/10

Lucas D- CBR Brave
Positives: I love how your striping bases itself off of the logo with the white and silver being next to each other. Also, great idea bringing the hem on the white jersey. It would look pretty bare without it.
Negatives: Two things that are issues with this jersey. You do have the yellow on white issue with the white jersey and those numbers on the dark jersey just don't match the logo well. Maybe reverse the silver and white or just make them one color?
Overall: 7.75/10

Phil B- Farmingdale St. Rams
Positives: I give credit to you for making a logo based off the mascot's head. Also, the half sleve design actually works on both jerseys.
Negatives: I wish you put a little more detail into the logo but it really works.
Overall: 8.25/10 COTW NOMINEE!

That's all I have for you guys this week. Thanks for tuning in and I'll see you guys this time next week!
