Sunday: Sounds Like Hockey Propaganda

Hi everybody. Steve here with another Sunday post. we've had a good bit go on this week and it was covered pretty extensively by my fellow colleagues so how about we get into the concepts mkay?

Before we do, though, I must remind all of the semi-final designers of the HJC open to get there entries in on Monday by noon as well as everybody to vote for them and the COTW!

COTW July 27 - August 2 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
HJC Open Semi-Finals entries (due Monday @ noon ET)
HJC Open Semi-Finals vote (Tuesday - Friday @ noon ET)
Jersey Nerds Podcast (new episode every Monday)

To the concepts

Brendan P- Toronto St Pats
Positives: You recreated the St Pats' logo with the Comic Sans font successfully.
Negatives: This is another one of the logos that looks like it took you two minutes to complete and shows little creativity. Heck, your "The Price is Right" knock-off logo at the bottom is more creative. Speaking as a friend, please add a poorly drawn cartoon hockey player in the St Pats uniform to gives some more to look at.
Overall: 3/10

Burkus C- Cleveland Gladiators
Positives: The Gladiators. The only football team that was somewhat successful before they decided to cease operations this year. Getting back to the jersey, I really like you kept it a clean, traditional design to accent the logo itself. Also, the black, Carolina-style yoke on the white jersey really draws it in.
Negatives: First, get rid of that half collar. Second, there is not enough red stripping on this jersey. Red is the secondary color and, with the silver being used as the secondary color, a nice balance would really help the colors work together. Also, the white numbers in the silver striping just aren't going to work.
Overall: 6.5/10

Jordan R- Leningrad Hammers
Positives: First off, I love the 70's-80's style advertisement for your design. It's really unique and has a humorous feel to it that makes you spend more time looking at it. As for the jerseys, I really like how traditional this is, and yet it fits so well with the period. The read pants and helmet go really well with the blue jersey and white jersey. Well done overall.
Negatives: My only negative is that, while the design is nice, it's really busy and doesn't really help your eyes draw to any one point or go in any direction, which could draw some viewers to go past it.
Overall: 9.5/10 COTW NOMINEE!

Phil B- New York Liberty
Positives: You really pulled off the silver striping on both the home and road jerseys on this. It has to be that you kept the orange stripe the same width as well as keeping the cuffs blue on both jerseys that help the silver striping. Also, the Ranger style pants are a nice touch.
Negatives: What are those numbers? That serif on the tops look strange and it just doesn't match well with the jersey overall. Second, I noticed that you have some coloring issues on the front hem of the blue jersey. The blue, Columbus-style hem stripe disappears, unlike the white jersey's hem.
Overall: 7.5/10

Well that's all I have for you guys today. Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you all next week!
