Monday: March Break Madness
It's March Break/ Spring Break/ My birthday is Friday..cough cough What? Anyways, Happy Spring Break!
Here is the weekend update for those who missed it, podcast included 1 week early
Live chat this Saturday, come ready to chat and remember to send in your on the fly poll concepts to HJC by I'll say Thursday unless you hear otherwise. MARK YOUR CALENDER.
COTW has reset for the new week. Check out the concepts in the COTW section. Votes are due by Friday night.
COTY February 2013 is up for vote, 4 great concepts, all of which I really wish I could vote for....so everyone vote! Votes are due friday
The Hamilton Tigers Re-design has entered its voting phase. Check out the concepts by clicking on the stripy tab. Votes are due Friday.. and remember the entries are GGGGGGRRRRRRREEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTT.....yeah I'm sorry, I shouldn't have made that bad a joke ever!
Also, Congrats to the HJC Hall of Fame Class of 2012 Justin C., Stephane S., Avi S. Brian B., Scott M.! Hopefully there will be a class of 2013, maybe I'm just thinking freely but perhaps we should do as the NHL does and vote for the class of 2013 at the end of the year, and have an eligability period (1 year min of submissions?) and perhaps a concept the HOFers choose to go in with, like MLB hats? I don't know, just shooting out ideas, any thought?
Jersey Knights Concepts (By: Bastian S.)
I love this team's look! The colour scheme, the logo, the 70's K logo and it's from my favourite outdaed qwirk of a hockey league, the WHA! Bastian has sort of modernized them and like most of Bastian's concepts I like this one. The addition of a 2nd blue is great, and the colours are all balanced very well. I'm not too keen on the checkers, some explanation is greatly needed and if there was some, I'd be all for it, also, I think if you got rid of the yoke on the white jersey and made the outer yoke stripe orange and did the same with the home jersey that's look better. (7.5/10)
Florida Panthers Concept (By: Stephen T.)
Florida needs to brighten up..however, Stephen is on to something with this cocnept. I like the white jersey, but it looks a little bear, if the blue on the arms was red and ther was a large cuff, I'd say it was great. The home needs alittle more work, and is again plain. The jersey desperately needs some white. Howeverm It just needs some touching up and is very close to being good. If you put the striping on the socks on the arms and hem, I'd some these, but as is, needs some work. (6/10)
Buffalo Sabres Concept (By: Brady S.)
Brady wants the Sabres to stick with the script. I love the blue jersey, it's near perfect to what I would want the Sabres to wear as a 3rd jersey..that or a yellow jersey. The white one is okay, I don't like how the yoke looks, and Brady's next concept has the same problem so I'll just say it now. I also don't like how the numbers are yellow, same with the script. They should be blue so as to balence the colours. Close to being great, but still good. (8/10)
New York Islanders Concepts (By: Torin K.)
Torin has done everything I'd want in an Islanders jersey, same logo, four stripes shoulder patch, small amount of teal, DARK BLUE and DARK ORANGE and an orange third jersey. I really like how well teal has blended into the colour scheme, it's a colour the Islanders were not willing to work with and now pay the price. I really like the 3rd jersey, the striping is good, and the 4 stripes motiff that New York likes to HAMMER into our brains seems to work even if the monkeys in the Central Park Zoo now know the Islanders won 4 cups in a row. My only suggestions would be to add team to the logo, just a small amout and just on the home and away. (9/10) COTW NOM. from Me!
Carolina Hurricanes Concept (By: Brady S.)
I love that away jersey. The amount of red, black, silver and white is balanced pefectly (as you've noticedI'm all about colour balancing). The red jersey...not so much. The black really takes away from the concept, white would look better, and no yoke works much better. I still like it but I don't like the Hurricanes red and black togather as they clash quite a bit (7/10).
New York Islanders Concept (By: Justin C.)
Recently inducted HOFer Justin gives us a very well done Islanders concept. I love the striping here, it's unique, the wave shape is noticeable and yet subtle, and I love the colour choices. The logo is pretty good, again I love the Islanders current logo, and I'd love to see how it looks with their curret logo, but as is, it's an amazing shoulder patch. The NY logo looks good, and some does the crest logo. Everything is solid, nothing to change, HOF concept. (9/10)
Edmonton Oilers Concepts (By: Torin K.)
Torin has used a new shade of brownish colour, that I like. Now, I will say the colour looks like the same colour you made in Kindergarten when you mixed all the paints togather, but it still works, looks more like sand, like oil sands, and less dated than the bright orange. The home and away look good, nothing too special, I like the revieval of the shoulder patch. The alternate is okay, WHA like, but I would use the bright orange for the full WHA effect. (7.5/10)
Loyola Hawks Concepts (By: Me (Jets96)
This is a concept for my high school, the Loyola Hawks. Our current jerseys look like Washington Capitals lookalikes and our road has little white on it so the colours melt all togather easliy. Thus I made thease 4 concepts. I based the look off of the Blackhawks and the Avalanche, and combined the two. My personal favoureit is #2, the logo w/o the white yoke. One of these jerseys may.. MAY be considered an option for next season so I'll keep you guys updated on that. Which one is your favourite. Any suggestions?
Cleveland Crusaders Concepts (By: Bastian S.)
The Gary Cheevers, I mean Crusaders have the best logo in the WHA and the one of the best looks in the 70's fun house known as the WHA. Purple is underused in hockey and Bastian balances the purple perfectly. The home jersey looks great, and everything thing looks great. The away is very well done too, and I like the black numbers, as they are legible. I love the striping pattern to, very collegey and very vintage. (9/10)
EDIT
Stephane just had to! Hall of Fame banners.
For the record, there is no HJC Hall of Fame, but these are very fun nonetheless.

Wow. Had no idea there's an HJC HOF now! I'm honored to be a part of the first class! Thank you Ryan and all the other HJC writers for a place to contribute concepts and build the skills to create quality concepts!
Also, Justin's Islanders for COTW!
I love that Islanders concepts by Justin, although one issue i would want to point out, maybe try a circle version of the logo since the Rangers already use a shield logo-switching to a shield log with a move into Ranger's territory is a alienating move. Love everything about the concept though. Even though I HATE the fishsticks.
It wasn't meant to be a Hall of Fame class. I just didn't know what to call the people that consistently submit GREAT concepts.
I see the COTY sorta like the Hall of Fame
I think the checker pattern on Bastian's concept is referring to a chess board....the name of the team is the Knights and their logo is a chess piece called a knight.

I find it odd that in a span of 4 days half of the HJC writers have birthdays (mine is Thursday, Jets96's on Friday, and Colin's on Sunday).
I'll also second Justin's Islanders concept for COTW. Although Jon El makes a good point about the shield logo.
I missed something... What's the HJC HOF? You know you're not following when you get named on something and you don't know what it is! Feels like high school again. LOL. Thanks to the... committee? to Ryan? Really hoping for some time on my hands to produce concepts again... sigh...
Thanks for the mention Ryan! Just for future reference, my name is pronounced Ahh-Vee haha, nobody gets it right.
@Stephane: I was just making mention on the Podcast on Sunday about the people that submit stuff here that are really excellent. You were named. I called the category "Hall of Famers". It was of just a term than an actual title. My mistake.
@Avi: My wife and I were debating about how to pronounce your name...she won. My deepest appologies!
Also, Torin's Islanders concept for COTW!
Okay, I see what you meant. Thanks for the mention anyway!
That's what I was wondering. Will there be an actual induction post at some point, to induct the members? This has nothing to do with me being one of them, but I do think the idea is great, and that it should be done.
Really like both Islanders concepts today. Would love to see my Isles go out there in either uniforms. Great job!
