Monday: Rocket Sabre Panther
Welcome to the Monday post!
If you didn't see yesterday the Worcester Railers HC showed us their white jerseys and NHL18 filled in the rest as to what the team will wear in their first season. You can read about it right here!
Hope you all enjoyed the HJC Podcast, released on Sunday. I hope to be on as many as my schedule will allow. I'll also have some better equipment in the near future to give it that old FAN590 Bob McGowan sound (if you don't like Prime Time Sports then pick your favourite, it's no skin off my nose). We'd like to make HJC Mailbag a longer segment, as I do in fact know how to wash a jersey, as Ryan told me how to YEARS ago when the Reebok script patch on the back of my Jets home jersey fell off. So if you have questions for the HJC writers, put it in your usual concept email or shoot us a tweet. Don't follow us on Twitter or Facebook yet? You should. Click the buttons on the side of the blog to do so!
This begins out last week of the entry phase for the AIHL Redesign competition. Entries are due THIS Friday at noon.
Let's check out the entries that have come in so far since last post!
DT Concepts
Great stuff! Keep them coming in!
COTW resets for the week. You can see the entries on the side of the blog as usual and those votes are also due Friday at noon.
On with today's concepts!
Buffalo Sabres Concepts (By: Kevin D.)
+ It might look like it on the surface, but these are NOT complete rehashes of the Sabres classic look. The white jersey fixes that weird issue the originals had with the hem and arm stripes being inverts of each other, and instead of the Leafs sock stripe, it's a version that match the road better
+ Fantastic execution and presentation
+ The shoulder patch reminds me of the Gatineau Olympique jerseys when Giroux was there
+ This would probably be my ideal Sabres set
- It's not that there's anything wrong with these, but I feel there could be something added to these like the stitched numbers of the 40th anniversary jersey, or the crossed sabres captain's C from that other alternate
Rating: 9/10
Florida Panthers Concepts (By: Alan H.)
+ One thing you cannot call these is boring. I really like the look of the hem stripes, particularly on the white jersey
+ Nice and unique numbers
+ The current primary works really well as an alternate
+ Good execution
- The old Panthers primary clashes with the new one on the shoulders, the updated version would look a lot better
- I'm not sure how I would fix the arms, maybe thickening the gold
- Primary logo is way too small
Rating: 7.5/10
Rocket de Laval AHL Concepts (By: Brooks F.)
+ Striping looks phenomenal, especially with the logo
+ Beautiful numbers, those are something the team should be known for
+ Shoulder patches are solid
+ I like how you can tell they're obviously a Habs affiliate, without them wearing Habs rip offs
+ Solid execution
- Pants could use a stripe
- Would like to see that 9 with the rocket exhaust on the bottom somewhere on the collar or cuffs, I might be one of the people who likes the sheer amount of logos on the current jerseys
Rating: 9.25/10 COT Nom from me!
