Jets 96- Rapid City Rush

The Good:
  • Striping design pulls from the log quite nicely
  • Gold Pants help the overall look from becoming maroon heavy
  • NOB & #OB font works well enough with the primary logo...
The Bad:
  • ...Would love a double outline to make it match that much more
  • Really wish the glove design would match that of the pants. There's a strange disconnect currently
The Ugly (Execution Issues):
  • With this layout, its hard to discern what the helmet logo is without an outside search, I'd feature it somewhere in the white-space.
  • Helmet straps only come in one color variations (and only black and white at that), rather than the mash-up we see here
  • Sock striping is a bit high, use Lucas' concept below as an example of more accurate placement
Overall Rating: 6.5/10
A concept that looks good. But looks like a lot of other concepts I've seen before.

Lucas D.- Los Angeles Kings

The Good:
  • The cross-era home plate logo combination really classes up LA's current look
  • Striping pattern is a nice callback from the 1998 design, with an additional black stripe on the outsides to provide the necessary contrast and mirror the logo
  • Two-color Adi-zero collar treatment works really well here
  • Hanger effect provides a nice pop of purple...
The Bad:
  • ...which would look really nice if it could find its way to the exterior of the design
The Ugly (Execution Issues):
  • #OB seems small here
Overall Rating: 9.5/10
A beautiful combination of eras that achieves everything the King's 50th anniversary jersey couldn't.

Phil B.- Carolina Hurricanes
The Good:
  • Logo choices here work well for an alternate. Recolored shoulder logo's stick to Carolina's current standard
  • Number cut-off chest striping provides a refreshing look against the Panthers and Wild's new designs
The Bad:
  • While I'm a fan of the warning flag pattern on the Cane's home uniform, it overpowers the look here. I'd stick with it on just the primary logo and the hangar effect
  • White and grey start to blend from a distance
The Ugly (Execution Issues):
  • #OB seems small here as well
  • Sock striping runs high here. See Lucas' concept as an example of proper placement
Overall Rating: 8.0/10
Well it's great that the Cane's are embracing the warning flag pattern again, this concept takes that to the point where it is no longer effective.

Vaughn R.- Brooks Bandits
The Good:
  • Color balance is solid on the primary sets when viewed in a vacuum...
The Bad:
  • ... but the blackout equipment throws this off with so little black in the sweaters
  • Ducks font doesn't really work here and the varying number of outline (3, 2, 1) raises some questions
  • Roundel logo would be a nice addition to the shoulders of the main set
  • Striping looks well enough, but isn't particularly original
The Ugly (Execution Issues):
  • UA logo is borderline gigantic on the front of each jersey
  • Diddo to Phil's comments yesterday regarding layout issues
Overall Rating: 6.0/10
As much as I hate to say it, we're left with a look that doesn't do much for me.

That's all, folks. My COTW Nomination is extended to Lucas D's Los Angeles Kings concept that comes just a week too early. Why's that, you ask? Guess you'll have to wait and see...

Lucas D's concept is too unoriginal for me to get behind it, although I love the logo.

I say Phil's Carolina for COTW.

@Nolan: Unoriginal? What makes it unoriginal? I guess the striping pattern is similar to Kings’ jerseys of the past, but it’s inspired by the logo I mashed up.

With that being said, I agree about Phil’s concept. I’ll second it for COTW.

It looks similar to both Buffalo’s and if I recall correctly avi’s Vegas concept that won COTY.

Thirding Phil's Canes for COTW.
