Wednesday: The wait is over

WELCOME TO THE NEWLY REDESIGNED HJC!

Gone is the cream black and maroon, replaces by a blue-navy gradient from the horizontal middle outward, and a new partial jersey logo featuring an old fashioned style pen outlined to form the sleeve of the jersey. I'm biased but I'd rate it at 100%. The new brand is as easy for you to navigate as the old site too. Job well done.

I simply tagged along with the rebrand idea TBH. I have so much going on that I decided to let the other writers handle it, so I thank them and congratulate them on a wonderful new look.

It seems like I'm the one writing posts on massive days: The first post after Vegas announced their brand, the fist post after Adidas unveiled their new look for the NHL. And now the first post after the NHL Preseason. And with the NHL season upon us tonight, Twitter and the NHL have come together to put special logo emojis at the end of specific hashtags.

Have fun.

ON TO THE CONCEPTS!

Alan H: Chicago Blackhawks Concept

An idea we've seen numerous times: balance out the hem and arm striping. Only changes to the general idea here are altered shoulder patches that are exclusively red, white and black, a slightly different number font and sleeve trim in the pattern of the original striping. Otherwise nothing unusual, and nothing standout-ish.

Rating: 75%

Jets96: South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) Concept

Blue helmet would work better, right from the top of this. I do think the color balance on the white jersey is slightly off, but not by too much. Red numbers maybe? Again nothing too exciting from these jerseys here, or for that matter anything I have seen lately from Jets. Maybe try something new with your presentation. I learned a while ago that presentation goes a long way.

Rating: 80%

Justin B: Carolina Hurricanes Concept

This is a dynamic concept. Plenty of red, black minimized as a trim, with white as the true secondary color. Combine that with the identical striping trick and a genius, yet simple alternate logo, I think we have a winner, though I would have outlined that logo twice, silver on the outside of black. Flag striping is a must.

Rating: 98%

The WINNER of my Concept of the Week Nomination is

 JUSTIN B

 CAROLINA HURRICANES CONCEPT

And that wraps up an eventful Wednesday as we launch the brand new HJC. What do you think? Do you like the older style better? Or is it the perfect time for a new look? Also if you think my NHL picks are crazy, then comment below (preferably without telling me to screw off). Thanks for witnessing history.

Also for tonight, go Jets, Flames, Sharks and Blues. Islanders open in Columbus Friday and at home Saturday against Buffalo. HOCKEY IS BACK! YES! YES! YES!

oh my god this new site design is awful

Have you seen them play after Capuano was fired? They went 24-12-4. Plus Barzal is going to be very, very good, with Ho-Sang on his wing. Eberle is a massive upgrade over Strome.

Unfortunately this looks terrible on mobile. I'll check it out on a desktop later.

I'll second the nomination for Justin B's Canes set, that secondary logo is awesome! I love that it's the storm warning symbol combined with the white C gives it the whaler's negative space look that forms th H, very superb!

Hey Phil, if the Isles get third or better in the Met this year, I will record a sixty second video for the new YouTube channel about how much I love the Isles and you can write the script.

We're working on it guys.

This new look looks like a rip-off version of Icethetics

Kind of looks like a Leafs fansite from 2006, and it is pretty bad on mobile.

After sitting on it, I like the new look of the site. The logo also looks great, but is a little too similar to the NHLUniforms.com logo. I’d also suggest getting rid of the mobile version. The banners are squished, and features like COTW voting and navigating posts are gone.

Sorry, but the new site misses the mark... I don't mind the blue but the new logo is lacking. I won't nix that an re-brand may have been necessary, but the new layout just puts it over the top. Whole thing is too unecessarily drastic.
