2018 Stadium Series Logos Unveiled
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, home of the Navy Midshipmen, will play host on March 3rd, to the first Outdoor game in the DC area since the 2015 Winter Classic when the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals take to the outdoor ice for the 2018 Stadium Series Game.
Earlier today, during a Navy v. SMU Mustangs football game, Matt Niskanen and John Carlson of the Capitals were on hand to take a tour of the field, and to help unveil the even logo for this season's Stadium Series match up (the first to feature a Canadian team since the inaugural series in 2014/15), and the crests that will be worn as the primary logo on the yet to be unveiled jerseys.
The event logo itself carries over the brushed silver and yellow script from last year's game in Pittsburgh, as well as the Coors Light sponsorship logo found on every Stadium Series logo. Below the script is an anchor, in obvious reference to Navy, along with an eagle's head with its wings spread above arches and a star, keeping with the military/Marine Corps. theme.
Based on the Maple Leafs logo, it is a carry over from the 2017 Centennial Classic jerseys; the current Maple Leafs primary logo with possibly silver added to the veins of the leaf and outline.
The Capitals on the other hand join the Senators, and Lightning (Sens, Bolts) in using a shortened version or nickname as their primary logo. The 3 stars found on the usual Capitals primary logo is found here.
It is unclear what colour these jerseys will be based on this unveiling, as both logos show a logo meant for a white background, wether that be a white jersey or a white chest stripe. The jerseys themselves will be unveiled at a later date.
