Wednesday: Same Old Nike

You all know how I feel at this point in regards to the Nike nonsense when it comes to international hockey. I will say however that as unusual and cool some of these patterns are for the upcoming Olympics, The thing that irritates me the most is that while on several jerseys they look awful, it looks worse when these patterns are templates. The United States and Canada should have distinctly different looks. But no! Nike insists they have the same pattern in their own respective colors. Disgraceful.

VOTES: The Los Angeles Kings Redesign Competition is in the voting stages! And now you don't have to sift through the stupid popups of Photobucket. Google is working wonders for us to run this blog. Anyways choose your top 3. We also have the usual Concept of the Week vote so don't forget that.

NEW AT HJC: Our podcasts have been a hit, so now we want to make them interactive. Go to our HJC mailbag and send in your questions to have them answered on the podcast. We took some good questions on some of our larger podcasts and suffice to say we had our fun.

JERSEY CASUAL: We have expanded our line of T-shirt designs. WHO WANTS FISHSTICKS?? I DO! And once I get paid Friday it's mine.

STICKERS: Who doesn't love stickers? Seriously. I have about 15 or so on my car. I'm getting one along with my Jersey Casual shirt on Friday for sticker number 16.

ON TO THE CONCEPTS!

Adam G: Atlanta Thrashers Concept

Now I hate TV numbers on the top of jerseys. However if they were a bit smaller here I think this would be sufficient. The other option is to have the top set of, for lack of a better term, feathers eliminated in favor of moving the numbers off the shoulders. Otherwise I think this is a genius idea for an alternate of a team that always experimented with traditional jersey elements, like the jagged sleeve pattern, the arrowheads within the striping and the one sleeve with ATLANTA down the pattern.

John E: Chicago Blackhawks Concept

A modern take on the traditional look for the Blackhawks. Think like the LA-San Jose Stadium Series. Personally I'm not sold on the partial half-and-half look, because of how the yoke fights with the pattern for attention. At the same time, I'm not sure how you can resolve that issue while keeping it as enough of a clash from the other jersey. Black numbers with a double outline work very well on the back of both jerseys. I'd take the black jersey as an alternate for sure.

Actually now that I think of it, the white jersey reminds me of the DC United clash jersey from 2015-16. I hate DC United. Failing this concept immediately.

Rating: 83% (I was kidding about failing this one)

Noah B: New York Islanders Concept

One of the things that I like in the Islanders color scheme is how well the blue and orange compliment each other, and on their main set of jerseys, they balance each other out very well. On top of that, with the minimalist logo from their most recent alternate seen on this concept. The base color of the jersey is what balanced out the dominant white in the logo. Orange was nonexistent on that jersey because it was minimal in the logo. Therefore with this concept I think that the Islanders primary logo would work a lot better here if you want to include this amount of orange. Otherwise I would use less. Also I think the socks could be matched better than they are here.

The WINNER of my Concept of the Week Nomination is:

 ADAM G

 ATLANTA THRASHERS CONCEPT

Another week in the books and another road trip in the books as I went down to Washington to see the Islanders and Capitals as they celebrated "Hockey Fights Cancer" Night. Before the game (and after a lovely dinner at Gordon Biershe near the arena) I was walking to the arena and said to my friends "Heads up, Jon Ledecky straight ahead".

Yes the owner of the Islanders was standing by the entrance to the Metro station under the building. We took a picture and as we left, he said "Apparently I'm working the street corner tonight." Interpret that as you may and I'll see you next week.
